Goal Setting Templates





Goal setting templates are extremely useful to accomplish both:

  • To effectively manage the performance of your direct reports
  • To keep track of your own progress

    The most effective template that I have seen - and used - is the template that is based on the SMART formula, where ...

  • S stands for SPECIFIC
  • M stands for MEASURABLE
  • A stands for ATTAINABLE
  • R stands for RELEVANT
  • T stands for TIME BOUND

    GOAL SETTING TEMPLATE

    Once you have agreed – together with your employees – about their specific goals that they must reach, take every single one of these goals, place them inside this template – or even better – have your employees make their own templates, and then, use them to keep track of their progress in an ongoing basis along the way.

    You must remember Two Facts:

  • First, not setting SMART goals is a primary cause of low performance
  • Second, ongoing feedback is one of the most effective and powerful performance management tools (to learn how to properly give feedback, please read these guidelines)
